Chiropractic FAQs

Find clear answers to common questions about chiropractic care, treatment methods, and what to expect during your first visit at Eastern Shore Chiropractic Center.
  • What do Chiropractors learn in school?

Diagram of the human nervous system; showing brain, spinal cord, and nerve pathways to organs.

Many people are surprised to learn that chiropractors extensive education requirements include over 4200 hours of anatomy, pathology and clinical skills.

  • When will I feel better?

The healing process is just that, a process. It takes time and repetition for the body to heal. Some patients experience almost instant relief. Others discover it can take many week or months. Many factors can affect the healing process. How long have you had your problem? Are you keeping your appointments? Are you getting the proper rest, exercise and nutrition? Are you in otherwise good condition? Within a short period of time most patients sense enough progress to fully complete the doctor’s recommendations.

  • What conditions can Chiropractic care help with?

Chiropractic care addresses a variety of issues including back pain, neck pain, headaches, sports injuries, and post-accident rehabilitation. Our treatments focus on improving joint function and reducing discomfort.
  • What should I expect during my first appointment?

Woman in a green sweater, smiling, sitting in a nail salon chair, hands crossed, dark nail polish.
Your initial visit includes a thorough assessment of your posture, movement, and medical history. Dr. Joe will explain your treatment plan and demonstrate exercises to support recovery and prevent future issues.
  • Are Chiropractic treatments safe for all ages?

Yes, our care is tailored for every family member, from children to seniors. We use gentle, effective techniques designed to suit each patient’s unique needs and health conditions.
  • Is Chiropractic safe for children?

A baby's back is massaged with two hands on a white surface.

Chiropractic is one of the safest forms of children’s health care. A chiropractor does not adjust a baby or a child the same way as he or she adjusts an adult. A baby’s spine is very supple during the first few months of life, so the doctor of chiropractic applies only a slight pressure to make an adjustment. For older children whose spine is still made mainly cartilage, slight pressure followed by a gentle push is all that is required to put the vertebra back in place.

  • How effective is Chiropractic care for children?

Chiropractors have been providing safe and effective care for children for over 100 years. The most common conditions for which children visit a Chiropractor are: earaches, neck pain, check-up, headache, upper respiratory, low back pain, allergies, asthma and thoracic pain. Other reasons are ADD and ADHD, colic, torticollis, insomnia, growing pains, and persistent crying in infants.

  • How effective is Chriopractic care for pregnant women?

Silhouette of a pregnant person with an overlay of a skeletal spine and rib cage.

Guess what? According to the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), prenatal Chiropractic care can help reduce the chances for Dystocia (abnormal/ difficult labor) for most pregnant women, too!

As your body changes to accommodate the little one (or little ones), it needs extra support and proper alignment to function optimally. Dr. Joe checks all pregnant moms using the Webster technique to optimize the neurologic and biomechanics function of the sacrum and pelvis.

Correction is made with a gentle, sacral adjustment. It’s simple, non-invasive and can mean the world of difference for you, the baby and the delivery.

How can Chiropractic help me?

Chiropractic treatment helps your muscles, joint and nerves to function optimally. This allows your body to heal itself naturally, from mechanical injuries. It will help restore mobility, reduce pains and aches that you feel, and it helps reduce chances of further injury to the area in the future.

At Eastern Shore Chiropractic Center, the treatment provided by Dr. Kroniser is individual to every patient and we will tailor the treatment to each individual’s needs. As a result, we can apply the Chiropractic Care across the ages from babies to elderly.

What is a Chiropractic adjustment?

The term adjustment refers to the specific manipulation chiropractors apply to vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. The objective of the Chiropractic treatment is to reduce subluxation, which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function.

Are adjustments safe?

Dozens of research studies have documented the safety and effectiveness of Chiropractic adjustments. They are significantly safer than taking medications or having surgery.

What is that popping sound?

Our joints are surrounded by a lubricating synovial fluid which contains gases such as carbon dioxide, oxygen, and nitrogen. When a joint is adjusted, the change in pressure may release a gas bubble which makes the popping sound – the same process that occurs if we “crack” our knuckles. The sound is not a guide to the quality of the adjustment.
